Growing up in New Jersey, Jess’s mom registered her for loads of activities, from baton twirling to field hockey, so that she could discover my talents. After much trial and error, Jess got hooked on cheerleading, dance, and lacrosse. Northeastern University brought her to Boston where she graduated with my Doctor of Pharmacy degree. During school Jess was always active and did not like to sit still for too long. When she wasn’t in the library or class, you could find her at group fitness classes, studying for exams on the elliptical machine at the gym, practicing yoga, or running around exploring the city. Now when Jess isn’t working (/crushing it/saving lives) as a Clinical Pharmacist at Boston Children’s Hospital, she enjoys spending time with friends, discovering sweet new jams to incorporate into her Handle Bar classes, and reading outside on her deck in South Boston.
As a cycling enthusiast, marathoner, yogi, and former cheerleader, Jess has a passion for movement, fun, and living life to the fullest. She wants to inspire riders to connect to the present moment, let loose, play, push, laugh, and most importantly, enjoy the ride!
What draws you to riding at The HB?
Since the first time I checked in for a class at the Southie studio I fell in love with spinning and The Handle Bar community. I left that class realizing that I had never been so comfortably uncomfortable before and loved every high-energy, sweaty second of it! The personalized and communal ambiance at The Handle Bar helped inspire me to keep coming back for more. The Handle Bar instructors, staff, and fellow riders have become amazing friends while pushing me to challenge my limits and grow in numerous ways. Being an instructor at The Handle Bar combines my passion for music, fitness, and spreading positive vibes. On the instructor bike my goal is to inspire, motivate, challenge, and contribute to the community the same way The Handle Bar has inspired me!
What is something most people don’t know about you?
I have a serious sweet tooth! One of my biggest guilty pleasures is eating ice cream for breakfast and baked goods definitely go to waste when I’m around.
Any mantra or quote you rely on for inspiration or motivation?
Work hard. Play harder. I believe that positivity and enthusiasm are contagious. We only have one life to live, and it is important to focus on all of the good things around us. Responsibilities and challenges are inevitable, but handling them with a positive, graceful, and hard-working attitude can ease these stressful situations. After the work is done, it is extremely important to have fun and treat yo’ self by doing something that makes you happy!
5 staples you can always find in your fridge/pantry.
Apples & almond butter (my favorite snack)
Ice cream (breakfast of champions)
Trader Joe’s Cookie Butter (actually anything from Trader Joe’s)
GoMacro Macrobars (great for snacking between HB classes and work)
What’s your pump-up song?
Anything by Celine Dion, Taylor Swift, or Dave Matthews Band pumps me up. My mom brought me to see Celine in Las Vegas, and during the concert I may or may not have cried tears of joy and awe...twice.
